Additional Information:
St. Patrick's Cathedral Choir School, which was founded in 1432, is unique in Ireland as the only primary school serving a cathedral choral foundation in the whole of Ireland and is the oldest school in Ireland. The Cathedral Choir is essential to Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, and the Choir School is central to the life of the Cathedral community. The Choir School, which is a senior co-educational school under the patronage of The Archbishop of Dublin, The Most Revd Dr. Michael Jackson, wishes to appoint a permanent teaching Principal beginning early in 2025.
The present teaching staff comprises 1 Teaching Principal, 1 Class Teacher and a shared SET Teacher. There are 24 children currently enrolled in two class groups.
The successful candidate must be an excellent communicator with the strong inter-personal skills needed to lead and maintain a happy, active Choir School within the wider Cathedral community. Experience of multi-grade teaching, and/or experience in teaching in a small school, is essential.
n this unique educational environment, the successful candidate will demonstrate a strong awareness of the symbiotic relationship between the Cathedral community and the Choir School, which will necessitate a commitment to supporting the Church of Ireland ethos.
The Choir School provides a child-centered, happy and safe environment for all its pupils to learn and develop holistically to the best of their individual strengths and abilities. In addition to high academic expectations, pupils are provided with an internationally renowned musical and choral education and participate in a wide range of extra-curricular activities, including media broadcasts and performance. Candidates should have the ability to foster the involvement of parents within the school community, as well as a commitment to a 600-year-old choral tradition.
The roles and responsibilities for the post are set out in the four domains of Leadership and Management as specified in DoE Circular 0044/2019, Chapter 4.
1. Leading Teaching and Learning.
2. Managing the Organisation.
3. Leading School Development.
4. Developing Leadership Capacity.
Candidates should have current and continuing Teaching Council registration and show evidence of, and commitment to, ongoing Professional Development.
The appointment will be subject to current vetting requirements and occupational health screening.
Applications, including a full CV, may be made by e-mail to the Chairman of the Board of Management, The Very Reverend Dr William Morton, by close of business on Friday 6th December 2024 to: principalpostchoirschool@gmail.com
